Why resilience is your superpower

Updated: Jan 10

As part of April's Stress Awareness Month here in the UK, I have shared tools and tips on my socials about understanding your stress signature and signs of stress. This month, I've been focused on sharing my model to help you BUILD RESILIENCE in your daily lives to help you manage your stress levels, and create a sense of calmness and confidence. Many of my clients are trying to get their heads around what a "hybrid way of working" means for them and their families with this current wave of opening up making many question their work life boundaries, availability for work and wonder whether they want their working lives to operate in the same way as they have for the past 12 months. For me, the heart of this conversation is boundaries and resilience. Understanding where your lines lie and how to build in a sustainable and healthy working life to ensure that you have the energy, headspace and motivation to deal with the challenges ahead! So this blog is dedicated to help you build greater resilience in your lives!

Resilience is accepting your new reality even if it's less good than the one you had before. - Elizabeth Edwards

What is resilience?

The traditional definition of resilience is the ability to bounce back from life's challenges.

But it's not just about handling the big stuff - it also helps us to feel adaptable, comfortable with change, optimistic and self-compassionate. I think that often we expect things to get exponentially better, to grow, to change in positive ways, to expand and to get more. But life doesn't always work that way and I think that's what resilience really is.

Recognising that your reality might be less good than it was a year, a month or a week ago but accepting it for what it is, and if you can, still finding the good in the moment.

We all want to be more resilient but often we mistakenly believe it's either just a mindset or that we weren't born as resilient as others.

I'm here to challenge those beliefs and share that there is a way to be more resilient and have more resilience in your day to day lives.

Resilience has become an important part of my coaching in the last 12 months - so much so that a corporate client asked me to deliver 42 1-2-1 resilience coaching sessions in January and February!!! Therefore, I’ve seen a wide range of challenges as individuals are trying to navigate 12 months of pandemic working and living.

So here's the model I use with my clients to help them build more resilience.

How to explore the topic of resilience further

The Elevate Resilience coaching model I've developed and shared above is based on eight key principles drawn from neuroscience, positive psychology and social studies. I share details on how you can explore each of these topics in more details together with my usual coaching tools and tips via my monthly newsletter which you can sign up for via my website homepage. I promise if you work through the tools and practice the behaviours, you will feel more resilience, calmer and clearer personally and professionally.
